Grady Lassiter Cullom
Grady Lassiter Cullom, 68, of Roanoke Rapids, departed this earth on Monday, January 19, 2009. He was the son of the late Jimmy Harrison Cullom, Sr. and Anna Odelia Keeter Cullom. Grady was also preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy H. Cullom, Jr.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Mr. Cullom was a U. S. Army veteran and a boxing champion while serving in the Army. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and he never met a stranger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Verlie Rose Cullom, of the home; his one and only child "his eyeball", Dawn E. Cullom and wife, Tiffany Horton Cullom, of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Edith Jenkins and her husband, Billy, of Lake Gaston, and Gwen Hubbard and her husband, F. D., of Lake Gaston; two brothers, Phillip Cullom, Sr. and his wife, Carnation, of Roanoke Rapids, and Davis Cullom and his wife, Alice, also of Roanoke Rapids, and several nieces and nephews, that he loved dearly.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Frank Stansbury officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 22, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the home.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Cullom’s service to his country.
